One-sentence summary: I’m using AI to help me build an open-source quadruped robot from scratch, and it’s my first time soldering a circuit board.
I recently found an open-source quadruped robot project on GitHub called Sesame Robot. I thought it was super fun and decided to build one myself. The entire set of materials only cost 263 RMB on Taobao, and I had the shell 3D printed via Xianyu.
I had absolutely no prior experience with hardware, hadn’t even touched a soldering iron before. Throughout this whole process, AI guided me step by step—from analyzing the code repository and making a shopping list, to setting up the development environment, and finally teaching me how to solder on a perfboard. AI even prevented me from messing up a few times, like almost buying 360° servos which would have been useless.
I’ve currently soldered the power board. The next step is to finish wiring the signal lines, calibrate the servos, and actually make it stand up and walk. I’ll share the finished product once it’s walking!
