Finding a Buyer to Sell My Labor

2024-11-24

Finding a buyer to sell my labor was quite an interesting experience.

A Chaotic but Fun “Self-Sale”

When the parent asked me about the compensation, I couldn’t even explain it clearly (ahhhhh how can there be such a person!).

Originally they wanted me to teach chemistry, but later the parent requested that I could teach anything, and I just said “okay okay okay.” Then they asked how to calculate payment when 1.5 hours doesn’t reach a full billing cycle, and I said I didn’t know.

During the process, the parent identified certain characteristics of their child: not unintelligent, just lazy. This made me think of the fixed mindset from “Mindset,” and I also felt like she seemed to want me to praise her child for being smart. But I immediately forgot about it and replied with some irrelevant educational philosophy of mine, haha.

The Joy of Teaching and an Unfortunate Toe

Although the process was a bit chaotic, the result was good: I earned my train fare home, hehe.

This experience was quite interesting—teaching was absolutely exhilarating! After work, I also wandered around the nearby park. After all, coming out with a toe that has a broken toenail, I’d better have a good time.

Then, on that hateful subway, someone stepped on my injured big toe, immediately said sorry to me, and I was just speechless for a moment…

Tutoring: A Window to Glimpse the World

Tutoring is an interesting experience that lets you glimpse many facets of life.

Right off the bat, I encountered a Hong Kong-Macau student who studied the same content but took exams from Hong Kong and Macau. The parent kept emphasizing during our communication—it was the child who wanted to find a teacher, arrange things themselves, and take responsibility themselves. It was like getting a close-up look at a different world.

It’s a good thing to develop a concept of money from now on. Although facing reality is sometimes painful enough that you have to stop and rest, when you’re tired, just rest—you’ll figure it out eventually. Let’s encourage each other!
